SharePlay Not Working?
Did you update your iPhone to IOS 15.1 to try the long awaited SharePlay feature on FaceTime? Did you find it easy to use? Have you figured out how it works yet? Probably not! I am here to help you get started with SharePlay.
I know. We’re all thinking it. This is not an intuitive feature, but you know what? It will get better. For now, let’s get you started with the basics.
How to use SharePlay:
- Update your device to IOS 15.1. While you’re at it, be sure to tell anyone who’s joining the call to do the same.
- Open FaceTime
- Click Create link -> this will prompt you to select the contacts you want to invite to the FaceTime call. Note: You can only select one contact at a time via this method.
4. Once you're done sharing the link with everyone who will be joining the call, tap on the link you shared to join the call by clicking on the green “Join” button.
5. As others start joining the call, click the green checkmark to allow them into the call.
6. Once all members of your party are on the call, you are ready to TEST the feature.
7. Make sure you have an active AppleTV subscription.
8. Open the AppleTV app and play “The Morning Show” or any other AppleTV original content.
9. When you hit “play” it should say “Content Will SharePlay Automatically”.
Note: It seems AppleTV originals are more likely to play for all users on the call without being prompted to rent/buy.
Important to note:
- Any movies you previously purchased via AppleTV will prob not stream for everyone on your call. They will likely see a rent or buy option.
- It seems like all users need to have an active subscription in order for SharePlay to work properly with other compatible streaming apps. I have not tested this.
- This appears to be a workaround! It’s not the only solution to get SharePlay to work. Do share how you got SharePlay to work for you.
